Meet the Staff

James Gaynor, DVM, MS, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists, Diplomate American Academy of Pain Management

Dr. Gaynor graduated from The Ohio State University in 1988. He was in private small animal practice in northeastern Ohio for 1 year prior to returning to The Ohio State University for a 3 year residency in Anesthesiology, where he also received a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences focusing on cardiac dysrhythmias. He is currently board certified in veterinary anesthesiology and certified in veterinary acupuncture. Dr. Gaynor joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 1992 and served as Section chief and associate professor of anesthesiology and pain management for his last 3 years until September 2004. He was a member of the Leadership Council for the Companion Animal Pain Management Consortium and now serves as a past member of the board of directors for the International Academy of Veterinary Pain Management. He implements the standards of University level anesthesia and analgesia in the private practice setting of the Animal Emergency Care Centers and the Animal Anesthesia and Pain Management Center in Colorado Springs.

Kim Spelts, BS, CVT, VTS (Anes), CCMT, CCRP

Kim has been a certified veterinary technician since 1999. After working as an emergency technician for one year, she spent the next 5 years as part of the Anesthesia Department at Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia in 2004. In 2005 she joined Dr. Gaynor at the Animal Anesthesia and Pain Management Center. She completed requirements from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy to become a Certified Canine Massage Therapist in January 2006.  She completed the University of Tennessee’s rigorous certificate program in canine rehabilitation and became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner in June 2006.
